Information about tetouan areaThe historic city Tétouan lies approximately 60 km from the city of Tangier, which is home to the main airport and 40 km south of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Situated in the middle of a fertile valley of orchards containing orange, almond and cypress trees, it is bordered by the magnificent Rif mountains to the south and west. The city streets are wide and straight and lined with many beautiful buildings, homes of rich aristocratic Arabs. Must see attractions in this historic city include the beautiful Medina which has been awarded World Heritage status, the Royal Palace, situated just outside the city and the various mosques within the city walls. The city is famous for its traditional crafts such as weaving, tiling, leatherwork and jewelry making and visitors can pick up beautiful handicrafts and souvenirs from the many craftsmen who sell their wares throughout the city. As part of the Kings tourism initiative the city’s airport will be upgraded to cope with the increasing number of foreign tourists to the area, attracted by the surge of new development in the area over the last number of years. |
